My husband and I met at the gym.  We worked all day, went to the gym, and ate late dinners, 5 days a week. Life was simpler then. When I was pregnant with my first son, we realized that we wouldn't have the luxury of going to the gym and that it would be difficult to get out of the house, so we built a home gym in our basement. We bought a pre-owned gym grade elliptical trainer, a cable system, and a bunch of free weights. It was perfect for us to run downstairs and work out together, catching up on our day. 6 years later, we still work out together in our basement after the kids go to bed. We have also added a few workout videos and a TRX.

It is not always easy to workout after the kids are in bed.  The day seems long and is exhausting, but I always feel better after I'm done.  It helps that we work out together; its motivation. Neither one of us wants to be the one sitting on the couch alone while the other is working out! The key to home workouts is motivation. It is also helps to set a time limit. 40 minutes is usually perfect for us. Some days its longer, other days shorter.
Typical workout is: 20 minutes of cardio + 20 minutes of weights.
Videos and the TRX keep our workouts interesting.  It is also worth hiring a personal trainer for a few sessions to create a  few routines to follow. We hired one to come to our house and use our equipment to create routines.  He went through all the exercises with us so we knew what to do, and to use proper form. We keep our routines posted on magnet boards so that we are never standing around figuring out what to do next.
I am always looking for new workouts and exercises to keep me motivated and the routines fresh! I will post some on the page called, "Work It Out!".
Today, create a plan to incorporate a home workout into your day or to do one "fit" inspired thing for yourself each day: stretch, yoga, go for a walk/run/jog, bike ride, jumping jacks, etc. You deserve it!
